Grafiek 1 geeft een simulatie van alle berekende gemiddeldes. In de 2e grafiek zitten meer patronen (simulaties van de medianen) en in de 3e grafiek tenslotte zit een nog duidelijker patroon: dit zijn de simulaties van de midrange. We nemen de midrange als gemiddelde, omdat de variantie (dus de spreiding) het kleinst is, wel hebben we hier meer last van outliers. Indien we kijken naar de mean, zien we dat slechts een paar outliers heeft. Maar het is toch beter om het rekenkundig gemiddelde te nemen.
