De berekening van de student is correct. De mediaan van totale productie ligt hoger dan die van kledingproductie.
De lijn van het boxplot in het midden van de figuur is de mediaan. De inkepingen links en rechts zijn grenzen van het betrouwbaarheidsinterval, tussen deze 2 lijnen kan de mediaan varieren.
Er is een daling in de kledingproductie tov het basisjaar (100 = jaar 2000). De mediaan van totale productie ligt significant hoger als we dit met het basisjaar vergelijken. In dit geval is er geen sprake van toeval, vermits de boxplots helemaal van elkaar afgescheiden zijn

Stel: als we de boxplot van kledingproductie naar boven zouden schuiven, blijft deze nabij het betrouwbaarheidsinterval van totale productie. In dit geval zou de kledingproductie niet significant lager liggen, maar kan er toeval zijn.

Bij de boxplots kan je geen spreiding meten, de breedte maakt dus niet uit.

Op de X-as van de grafiek staat X1 voor de totale productie en X2 voor de kledingproductie. De student kon via de Names of X columns de namen van desbetreffende gegevens invullen, dit voor de grafiek duidelijker te maken.
