De student antwoordde dat de midrange de beste benadering geeft van de drie omdat deze de kleinste spreiding vertoont.
Dit antwoord is correct. Een kleine opmerking echter is dat de midrange wel outliers vertoont. We dienen hier dus eigenlijk een keuze te maken. Een schatter met kleine spreiding maar met outliers (Vb mid-range) of één met een grotere spreiding maar zonder outliers (vb mean). Ze zijn alletwee goed, maar indien je graag op veilig speelt neem je best de mean.
