Deze oefening heb ik op de verkeerde manier opgelost.

Juiste oplossing:

In het betrouwbaarheidsinterval van Harrell-Davis Quantiles zetten we de stepsize eerst op 0,005. Er moet telkens 2,5% wegvallen aan de staarten om de 95% betrouwbaarheidsinterval te bekomen.
2,5% geeft een waarde van 14,326

97,5% geeft een waarde van 42,236
Er is 95% kans dat de waarden vallen tussen deze 2 waarden.

Daarna zoeken we het gemiddelde van deze reeks. Het gemiddelde is 24.0509565217391
Daarna verminderen we onze minimum- en maximumwaarde van het interval met het gemiddelde.
MIN = 14,326 – 24,0509 = -9,7249
MAX 42, 236–24,0509= 18,1851
Deze waarden zijn zeer groot dus de betrouwbaarheid is zeer klein. Hier is zeker nog ruimte voor verbetering.


Een andere manier zou zijn de R-code te veranderen:

De student maakte hier in de berekening inderdaad een fout. Ze vergat het gemiddelde in mindering te brengen. We kunnen dit inderdaad oplossen door van de minimum en de maximum interval van de 95% confidence interval het gemiddelde af te trekken. Maar een andere manier zou zijn door in de R-code x <- x - gemiddelde (24.0509565217391) in te geven. Als we dit nu ook eens effectief doen (zie link: http://www.freestatistics.org/blog/index.php?v=date/2008/Oct/31/t1225450424mahrfcd1dwt439m.htm) dan merken we dat we de resultaten gewoon kunnen aflezen zonder dat we het gemiddelde achteraf zelf in mindering moeten brengen. Waarom moeten we nu eigelijk het gemiddelde in mindering brengen? Aangezien we op basis van de formules (Yt = C + Et en Ft = Yt -Et = C) kunnen afleiden dat de constante de voorspelling is en men in de opgave vraagt om de voorspellingsfout (prediction error) te berekenen, dienen we dus de constante (de voorpelling) in mindering te brengen om de voorspellingsfout te bekomen. Welke voorspelling moet je er nu juist aftrekken? Als er outliers neem je best de mediaan. Indien er geen outliers zijn neem je best het gemiddelde.

Student vergat hier het gemiddelde in vermindering te brengen bij de bekomen resultaten van het confidence interval (95%).

Om correct antwoord te bekomen zullen we wederom in de R-code X <- x- 24.0509565217391 moeten invoeren.
