Een negatieve correlatie tussen de reeksen wil zeggen dat als de waarden van de ene reeks stijgen, de waarden van de andere dalen. In dit geval kunnen we dus stellen dat als bijvoorbeeld de waarde van de wisky daalt, dat de waarde van de gezondheidsindex dan gaat stijgen.
