Volgens de figuur is er wel een patroon te herkennen. De Hierarchical Clustering gaat berekenen welke observaties samen gezien kunnen worden, welke observaties gelijkaardig zijn, en gaat dit vervolgens hiërarchisch opbouwen.

Deze techniek wordt meestal niet echt gebruikt voor tijdreeksen maar meer in de marketing. Aan de hand van deze techniek je een bepaalde segmentatie maken voor bijvoorbeeld je productrange.
