Er wordt gebruik gemaakt van de Notched Boxplot.
Eerst en vooral kijken we naar de mediaan van de vijf investeringen. Die kunnen we aflezen aan de hand van de dikke vette lijntjes, die in ieder van de investeringen getrokken zijn. Je ziet duidelijk dat deze hoger ligt voor de IND10_UT90 dan voor de overige vier. Je kan de mediaan ook letterlijk aflezen uit de tabel in de kolom 'median'
Verder zie je ook dat elke boxplot inkepingen heeft. Dit zijn de betrouwbaarheidsintervallen van 95% waartussen de mediaan kan schommelen. Als je je investering nu op een random moment verkoopt, zal het dus vrij waarschijnlijklijk zijn, dat de return hoger ligt bij de IND10_UT90 dan bij de anderen.
We hadden vooropgesteld dat we een rendement wilden van 3,8%. Daar is duidelijk het meeste kans op bij de laatste investering.

Er moet inderdaad gebruik gemaakt worden van een notched box plot.
Op de grafiek kan men zien dat IND10_UT90 de hoogste mediaan heeft van alle investeringen en bovendien de kleinste spreiding kent, niet alleen qua gehele spreiding, maar ook wat betreft het 95% betrouwbaarheidsinterval van de mediaan.

Hieruit mag geconcludeerd worden dat IND10_UT90 de beste investering is, en ook aan de voorwaarde van een rendement van 3,8 wordt voldaan. De kleine spreiding van het 95% betrouwbaarheidsinterval van de mediaan biedt wat rendement betreft nog wat extra zekerheid.
