Het is niet omdat de mediaan bij investeringen het laagst ligt dat daarom de investeringen de grootste spreiding hebben. De spreiding bij investeringen is het grootste omdat de boxplot het grootste is. Maar daar draait deze opgave helemaal niet om.

De tijdreeks investeringen heeft het meeste verval sinds maart 2001.

In de tabel Boxplot Notches net boven de grafiek kunnen we ook de lower bound (ondergrens) en upper bound (bovengrens) aflezen, deze duiden het betrouwbaarheidsinterval aan.

De mediaan van investeringen valt duidelijk onder de upper bound van de andere 3 tijdreeksen. Dit is ook zeer duidelijk te zien aan de niet-overeenkomende notches in de grafiek.

De spreiding is inderdaad het grootst maar je moet kijken of de betrouwbaarheidsintervallen elkaar overlappen. Als dat niet het geval zoals hier kan men concluderen dat de mediaan significant lager ligt dan de andere tijdreeksen.

Aangezien in de tijdreeksen 2000 gelijkgesteld werd aan 100, kunnen we vaststellen dat de investeringen het grootste verval tonen tov van dit basisjaar.
