De medianen geven hier een verandering ten opzichte van het basisjaar. Zo kan je merken dat de mediaan iets boven 100 ligt bij de totale productie. Dat is een kleine stijging ten opzichte van het basisjaar. De mediaan van kledingproductie ligt een eindje onder de 100. Dat is een aanzienlijke daling ten opzichte van het basisjaar. De mediaan van kledingproductie ligt lager. Maar of deze beduidend (= significant) lager ligt, dat kan je zo niet echt zien.

Als je wilt kijken of de mediaan van kledingproductie significant lager ligt dan de mediaan van totale productie, moet je de betrouwbaarheidsintervallen met elkaar vergelijken (dat zijn de inkepingen langs de zijkanten van de figuren in de notched boxplot). Je kan dit het beste zien door van de betrouwbaarheidsintervallen horizontale lijnen te maken. Als je dan de lijnen van het betrouwbaarheidsinterval van kledingproductie vergelijkt met de lijnen van het betrouwbaarheidsinterval van totale productie, dan merk je dat betrouwbaarheidsinterval kledingproductie duidelijk lager ligt dan het betrouwbaarheidsinterval van de totale productie. Bovendien overlappen beide betrouwbaarheidsintervallen elkaar totaal niet. De mediaan van kledingproductie is dus significant lager dan de mediaan van totale productie.

Uiteindelijk is jouw conclusie dus juist, maar hiervoor moet je eigenlijk de betrouwbaarheidsintervallen met elkaar vergelijken en kijken of er een overlapping is.
