We zoeken de hoogste spectrumwaarde = intensiteit van de frequentie

Op de grafiek zien we ook dat het spectrum vooral links overheerst.
De y-as = de intensiteit waarin de golf voorkomt = zien welke dominant is
Er is een lage frequentie en een lange periode , veel golfbewegingen  lange termijn trend
De periodes van de pieken = 12,24,36,.. = dit betekent dat er sprake is van saisonaliteit

Bij spectral analysis wordt de tijdreeks ontbonden in regelmatige golfbewegingen. De getallen geven weer wat sterk en wat minder sterk voorkomt. De cumulatieve periodogram toont dat er sprake is van seizoenaliteit (de trappen) en van een trendmatig verloop (het steile verloop in het begin van de grafiek). Het steile verloop is typisch voor een lange termijn trend en geeft aan dat ongeveer een 70% van het model verklaart word door de lange termijn. Om de trend en de seizoenaliteit te verwijderen moet je differentiëren.

Spectraalanalyse is de derde methode om de graad van differentiatie te bepalen; Op het cumulatief periodogram kunnen we afleiden dat er een lange termijn trend aanwezig is. Dit zien we aan de sterke stijging aan het begin van de periode. Deze stijging reikt tot de waare 0,75, wat erop wijst dat we 75% van de schommelingen kunnen verklaren. Om deze trend dus te verwijderen gaan we niet-sezoenaal differentiëren. We stellen dus d gelijk aan 1

Naast de lange termijn trend, kunnen we op het cumulatief periodogram ook nog seizoenaliteit vaststellen. Dit kunnen we zien aan de trapvorm die zich herhaalt.
We moeten dus ook nog seizoenaal gaan differentiëren om zo de tijdreeks stationair te maken
